The Psychology Department at Yale University is looking to hire a lecturer with an initial 1-year appointment beginning Sept. 1, 2022. The goal of this position is to teach history of psychology with a focus on racism and colonial power embedded in psychology and the psychological sciences more broadly. We envision that these courses will allow graduate and undergraduate students to not only learn about, but also think critically about the racist, sexist, and classist past and present of psychology and the ways in which such systems of power interact with their own research practices. Applicants with background and expertise in history of science or history of psychology and/or psychiatry are encouraged to apply to this position. The teaching expectation is normally 4 courses per academic year, plus service to the program including curriculum development and supervision of teaching fellows. The expectation is that the successful applicant would teach two courses in history of psychology (one undergraduate and one graduate) in addition to two other courses in psychology (or closely related disciplines) reflecting their expertise and the department’s needs.
Full-time lecturers at Yale are responsible for the equivalent of 4 courses per academic year. They are eligible for Yale’s generous package of benefits, including health coverage, and they are encouraged to participate in the wide range of professional development opportunities offered through the Center for Language Study, the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office.
Qualifications
The appointee must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree or have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field by August 1st, 2022.
Application Instructions
Applicants should submit an application via http://apply.interfolio.com/105707 . They should submit a cover letter, CV, teaching statement, a statement on diversity, equity, and inclusion, an example course syllabus, and arrange to upload two letters of recommendation.
Review of applications will begin May 22, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. For questions regarding this position, please email Yarrow Dunham, Associate Professor of Psychology, Search Chair at yarrow.dunham@yale.edu.
